When folks from Philly saw the swinging spirituality at New
York's B'nai Jeshurun, they determined to bring the experience to their
community. Friday Night Alive! was the result. Several
synagogues hosted a city-wide singing-dancing Kabbalat Shabbat led by
visitors from B'nai Jeshurun. Some 800 people attended every Friday
Night Alive!
service.
We prepared a siddur for the program, with Hebrew, complete
transliteration and translation, and full instructions. It was so popular
that congregations all over the city ordered the book to use again and
again.
Inside you'll find the complete Friday Night service, with all the
psalms of Kabbalat Shabbat translated into English rhyme, the berachot of
the Amidah clearly marked, explanatory notes by Ellen Bernstein as well as
Joe Lewis, and of course line-by-line translation and transliteration
alongside the Hebrew.
