Singlish is hard to appreciate unless you can see it laid out with the Hebrew and
transliteration, but . . . oh, well . . . I guess I can give you a sample.
I don't want to spoil Dayenu by giving you just the Singlish, so here's a little
something else.
Hmmm. Htmmmmlll. Scratches head. Creative juices start to flow.
How about a bit of Aleynu? This is remarkably literal, and you can sing it to
the usual Aleynu tune. Try it. You'll see. We offer both the traditional version and the
non-sexist version. Both are available for your custom liturgical project.
Traditional Version of Aleynu
The Lord who formed the earth, we're bound
To praise him and with greatness crown.
He made us like no other race
On earth, nor set us in their place.
Our fate -- like theirs he made it not;
He chose for us a different lot.
We bend the knee and bow the head gratefully,
Before the king whom all kings dread,
Holy, blessed is he.
He stretches out the heavens,
Supports the earth below;
Above, high in the sky,
His presence does bestow;
His power dwells (2)
In heights where none can go.
Inclusive Version of Aleynu
The Sovereign of all
to praise we're bound,
The Creative Force
with greatness to crown,
Who made us like no other race
On earth, nor set us in their place.
Our fate -- like theirs God made it not;
But chose for us a different lot.
We bend the knee and bow the head
gratefully,
Before the Ruler whom rulers dread,
The holy, blessed One
Who stretches out the heavens,
Supports the earth below;
Above, high in the sky,
The Presence does bestow;
Whose power dwells (2)
In heights where none can go.

This is only a sample. There's scads more of this stuff. Look in our Hagadah,
and you'll find you can sing Mah Nishtanah, Dayenu, and just about any of the Hebrew songs
-- in English. Ask about Level II Singlish!
